I moved to the Charleston area due to my husband receiving a job offer here. Fairly common reason to move. When my husband asked about moving to South Carolina I said “YES” I had never been to South Carolina but I knew it had to be warmer there!
For decades, for Chicago residents, at least half their income goes to taxes which isn’t easy or sustainable unless they somehow make more than $50,000 per year. Chicago has lost nearly 1 million people in the last decade.
So here are reasons people leave the Chicago area:
The weather in Chicago is too cold! As would be expected, many people are leaving Chicago because of its cold winter months. In fact, from November to March, there can be as much as 100-inches of snow. I remember one winter the wind chill was 70 degrees below zero. No one left the building I worked in at the time to go out to lunch. You also need to make sure you keep at least a quarter tank of gas in your car during the winter to prevent your gas lines from freezing.
But Chicago is a great city don’t get me wrong. I love skyscrapers, “L” trains and just the bustle of walking around Chicago. I also miss the food. Good Pizza and beef sandwiches are hard to find in South Carolina.
And here are the reasons people move to South Carolina:
According to official U.S. Census data, the tri-county region grew by an average of 34 net new people per day in 2018. On average, 26 people net moved to the region each day last year.
