Mews and Brews – Cat Cafe

Summerville’s First Cat Cafe!

Open Monday – Thursday 12pm-8pm, Friday & Saturday 12pm-10pm

Cat Cafes originated in Taiwan and Japan but are popping up all over the world! They offer a bar to order pre-packaged food items and drinks, which you can take with you into the separate cat space. Bring your glass of wine and relax in our “Cat Lounge” where you can meet all of the adoptable cats from Dorchester Paws! They also host cool events like tarot readings, trivia nights, cat yoga, drag bingo, and more!

This cat café opened this month in Summerville and I found it a must to visit and check it out! There are two rooms where the cats are free to roam and are provided with plenty of room, toys, water and litter boxes. Best yet no smell!

The cats at the Café are provided with an agreement to foster with Dorchester Paws. Dorchester Paws is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals in Dorchester County, South Carolina. Dorchester Paws is the only open-admission shelter in Dorchester County, serving towns including Rosinville, Ridgeville, Oakbrook, St. George, Summerville, and Grover, SC. Partnering with Dorchester Code Enforcement, they take in every lost, abandoned, and abused animal and provide them with food, shelter, and medical attention until they find their forever home.

The shelter was established in 1972 by Frances R. Willis with land donated by Kapstone. Dr. Brunson Westbury and Frances R. Willis worked to get the road built and land cleared to open the facility. Over the years, the shelter has been expanded, but they continue to reach and exceed their capacity because our community is growing and the pet overpopulation crisis is not abating.

All Cats and Kitten adopted through Dorchester Paws are vaccinated, spayed or neutered and microchipped.  Adoption fees vary for cats and kittens.

I strongly suggest that if you love cats come. Reservations are required for a nominal fee which includes a beverage, some cat treats to feed the cats and one hour of interaction with adorable cats!

I made sure to pet each and most were very friendly. two of the Cats hide under a sofa as they were in the process of getting used to the new surroundings.  Here are pictures of some of the Cats currently being fostered.

I always keep up to date with everything going on in Cane Bay Plantation and Nexton.  I also know where you can go locally to do pretty much everything from buying a golf cart, having a computer or phone repaired, landscaping, power washing, dog training, etc.  If I don’t know I can find out!
