The Seasons of South Carolina

With the recent cold snap with temperatures at freezing I began to think about how often does this happen. The lowest recorded temperature in Charleston was 10 degrees fahrenheit in 1985.  Interestly the highest temperature was also in 1985 and was 104 degrees fahrenheit.

The average range for South Carolina is 40 to 60 degrees fahrenheit.  Since I moved here in April 2017 I have experienced weather I had not expected. I thought moving South I would never experience cold weather again!  I was wrong.

Winter: December – February or March

Winter in the Low Country along the Atlantic Coast has significantly milder temperatures with little to no snowfall.  The last time there was significant snow was in 2017. Temperatures range from 40 to 60 degrees.  My experience is that December is the coldest month.  Days can be warmer but the chill definitely sets in at night!

Spring: March-May

Springtime arrives in the Charleston area mid to late March . Wherever you live or visit in South Carolina, spring is a beautiful time of year with gorgeous weather and perfect temperatures.

Summer: June – September

Summer in South Carolina is hot, and people like it that way. Every region has its extremes, but overall, but in the Charleston area you’ll be warm. Wear a hat, pack some flip-flops, and enjoy a dip at one of the beautiful beaches, your local pool, or your own if you have one. Oh, and eat ice cream.

Fall: September – November

Fall in South Carolina is a season of cooler temperatures, brilliant foliage, and bountiful harvests. Warm clothes are still optional most days, with people getting by on cool nights with a cozy sweater.  You’ll see people wearing shorts and flip flops as well.

Whether you plan to just visit or move here South Carolina weather is always interesting!

I always keep up to date with everything going on in Cane Bay Plantation and Nexton.  I also know where you can go locally to do pretty much everything from buying a golf cart, having a computer or phone repaired, landscaping, power washing, dog training, etc.  If I don’t know I can find out!
